Mounds of fine textured green foliage give rise to masses of stems bearing flowers that feature long, prominent cones surrounded by reflexed petals in shades of deep reddish-brown, orange and yellow. This dwarf selection is perfect for the front of a sunny border and loves hot, dry conditions.

Native Range

Found on various well-drained, usually calcareous soils. Also limestone-based, caliche type, clay, clay Loam, medium loam and sandy Loam.

Interesting Facts

Like many native species Ratibida was used by Native Americans in a variety of ways. They created a medicinal tea from its stems and leaves to make an external treatment for snakebites, headaches, stomachaches, fevers and poison ivy rashes.


A drought tolerant plant that withstands competition and is fast growing.  Not fussy about soils and is easy to grow.
