Juniperus virginiana 'Blue Mountain'

Featuring flowing form and blue-green foliage, this easy care evergreen functions well in most sunny landscape locations while providing food and cover for an array of native birds and other wildlife. Masses of blue berries persist into winter on this plant. Looks great alone or planted in groups.

Native Range

Old fields, pastures, roadsides and margins of swamps from southern Quebec to southern Ontario, Minnesota and southern Iowa south to Texas and Florida.

Interesting Facts

The heartwood of all varieties of this species is reddish-brown and aromatic and the wood of the larger growing varieties is commonly used for cedar chests and closets because it repels insects.


Easy to grow in full sun. Prefers moist soils, but has the best drought resistance of any conifer native to the eastern U. S. Tolerates a wide range of soils and growing conditions, from swamps to dry rocky areas. Plant in masses to assure good berry set.
