Schizachyrium scoparium 'Standing Ovation'

Bluish-green, upright foliage gives a sizzling display of oranges, reds, yellows and purplish-browns in the autumn. 'Standing Ovation' thrives in poor, dry soils and its seed heads are prized by native songbirds. It provides winter landscape interest and cover for birds and other native critters.

Found in woodlands edge, hillsides, slopes, prairie, plains, meadows, pastures and savannahs.

Interesting Facts

Skippers and "true" butterflies are closely related. Skippers were named for their quick, darting flight patterns. Skippers have antennae clubs that look like backward crochet hooks while butterflies have a club-like tips to their antennae.

GROWING TIPS

Prefers average, dry to medium, well-drained soil in full sun. Adaptable wide range of soil conditions. Cut back in late winter to early spring before the new foliage begins to grow.
