DESCRIPTION
Black Gum or Black Tupelo
Nyssa sylvatica 'Green Gable™'

‘Green Gable’ has an upright, pyramidal shape, quite unusual for Nyssa. This amazing selection still has the glossy foliage and outstanding fall color that we love but, now in a more manageable size. The flowers bloom in May and June. The flowers aren’t very showy but their nectar attracts multitudes of pollinators, like honey bees that make the famous tupelo honey. The fruit matures to dark blue and is relished by birds and other wildlife. They prefer full sun to part shade in moist, acidic, humus rich soil. They can even tolerate wet sites and may be used in rain gardens.
