DESCRIPTION

Pussy Willow
Salix discolor

Silvery flowers provide pollen for native bees very early in the season and are conspicuous because they bloom on bare stems. Many birds find the flower buds tasty. Some butterflies use the blue-green leaves as a larval food source. This multi-stemmed shrub provides great cover and nesting sites.

INTERESTING FACTS

Pussy Willow catkins produce incredibly sweet nectar and when compared to other associated species, their nectar had one of the highest amounts of sugar.

Grows well in average to wet, well-drained soils. Thrives in full sun, but tolerates partial shade.
