This springtime beauty has creamy, white flowers that attract butterflies, bees and other pollinators. It is the host plant for Spring Azure butterflies. The flowers turn into bluish black berries in late summer, providing food for songbirds. The foliage turns an eye-catching, magenta in autumn. Mapleleaf viburnum prefer full sun to part shade in moist, acidic, loamy to clay soils. They also display some drought tolerance once established.

Native Range

Thickets and shaded woods and ravines from Maine to Florida west to Michigan and Texas.

Prefers average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Mapleleaf Viburnum is generally more shade tolerant than other species of Viburnum.
