Larix laricina 

Great hardiness and its tolerance of wet soils are the calling cards for this narrow, tall growing, pyramidal, deciduous needled tree. Tiny early spring bloom is attractive to pollinators while the seed in its resulting cones are prized by native birds. Superb golden yellow fall needle color.

INTERESTING FACTS

Indians used the slender roots to sew together strips of birch bark for their canoes.

The durable lumber of this plant is used as framing for houses, railroad cross-ties, poles, and pulpwood. 

GROWING TIPS

Thrives in full sun within consistently moist, acidic, and well-drained soils, while also showing tolerance to light shade. However, it is intolerant of full shade. It is often grown in groups.
