One of our favorite, slowly spreading, native groundcovers for the woodland garden. Yellow daisy-like flowers cover evergreen foliage in spring. Looks great with columbine and Virginia bluebells. The brightly colored flowers will light up shady areas and attract butterflies and birds.  It's found in the more northern range of the species, including North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and Ohio.

Native Range

Native to woodlands from New York to Louisiana and Florida.

Interesting Facts

 

Brightly colored butterflies are active during the day and use their colors to attract a mate or to warn predators that they are unpleasant to eat. In contrast, moths are usually dull in color and are active at dusk or during the night.
