Liatris spicata 'Kobold'

Bright, lavender purple flower wands open from top to bottom in mid-summer. 'Kobold' is a compact selection that is one of the best available and seldom requires staking.  It has a vertical habit that won’t take up much room, giving you big flower power for smaller spaces. A heavy nectar producer, this beauty attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Songbirds will eat the seed in autumn. An easy to grow perennial for full sun and moist well drained soil.

Found in moist, wood openings, mesic prairiesand marsh edges.

Interesting Facts

Most bees fly during the day. However a few North American species are able to navigate by the light of the moon and stars, which allows them to collect pollen and nectar from nocturnally blooming plants such as the evening primrose.

GROWING TIPS

Prefers average to moist, organically rich soils in full to part sun. Tolerant of harsh growing conditions such as poor soil, heat, humidity and drought, but is the most moisture tolerant of the genus.
