These are not your grandmother’s roses. Unlike their hybrid cousins, these roses will not need spraying, fertilizing or extra watering once established. They grow rapidly in almost any kind of soil and bloom like crazy with fragrant blossoms. The bright red hips persist through winter for an extra season of interest.

Native Range

It is found in dry pastures and open woods throughout most of eastern North America.

Interesting Facts

The rose hips, or fruit, is rich in vitamin C, and can be eaten. They make delicious jams and can be steeped to make rose hip tea.

GROWING TIPS

Adaptable to a wide range of soil types as long as they are well drained.  Prefers sun and part sun sites. Can tolerate wind but not maritime exposure.
